Introduction
This week, I had the chance to read a novel that features a character who overcomes adversity in relation to their gender identity. George by Alex Gino features a character in the LGBTQ community. The main character is a fourth-grade girl that was assigned male at birth. We see the internal and external struggles that she faces daily due to her identity. As educators, we must incorporate texts like George into our classroom library in order to disrupt the stereotypes that are related to gender.
